2018 Monaco Grand Prix, which was also known as Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco 2018 was held from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th May 2018 at Monaco. It is the sixth round of the FIA Formula One World Championship. The weekend was dominated by the Australians and led from pole, but soon after his pit stopped from power loss at the 1/3rd distance. Ricciardo holds off Vettel for 50 laps and Lewis Hamilton took 3rd in his Mercedes. 

In Monaco Grand Prix Monaco, Daniel Ricciardo ripped up traditional norms. For 18 of 78 laps, Ricciardo experienced a severe power issue struggling hard to escape from the sight of Sebastian in his rear-view mirrors. Despite shredded tyres, his car was 18 mph slower than Ferrari of Vettel on the straights.

Lewis Hamilton stood the third place and claimed that 76th Monaco Grand Prix actually left him cold. The Monaco Grand Prix was started by Daniel Ricciardo from pole after qualifying. But, Max Verstappen from Red Bull lined up at the back side. Red Bull was unable to repair the car of Verstappen on time to get him out from it after a practice crash. This leaves Ricciardo to Ferrari and Blitz Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel beats Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) to the second. The fourth was Ferrari’s, Kimi Raikkonen. 

In The Monaco Grand Prix 2018, various strategies were followed. Lewis Hamilton faces severe competition.

Practice 1 (24th May)

The first practice was held on 24th May 2018. The competition was fierce between Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo and Mercedes Lewis Hamilton. 

Practice 2 (24th May)

This weekend, Riccardo was trying hard to impress in Monaco along with Red Bull star that is setting a new track record in the practice session. Ricciardo’s teammate, Max Verstappen was 2-10ths back and the nearest challenger was Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), which was half a second of the speed. 

Practice 3 (26th May)

On the third practice day, Red Bulls shows a clean pair of Monaco’s heel in the final practice. Riccardo and Verstappen had the quickest times throughout the session. In just 8 minutes, Verstappen got it wrong entering coming out of the pool complex and hitting the outer wall that ripped the front right of his vehicle. 

Qualifying (26th May)

Red Bull secured in all three practice sessions along with Ricciardo ahead of his teammate. Mercedes looked like the third-best in Monaco, but Hamilton also snatches the position on the final run. Ferraris’ Kimi Raikkonen was fourth.  

Final race (27th May)

Monaco Grand Prix Monaco was a clean start. At the back of the grid, Verstappen passed Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean. Whereas Lance Stroll started as a stronger opponent. In the race, Mercedes stunned everyone by pitting Hamilton on the lap 12. Vetted pitted four laps, followed by Ricciardo. Ricciardo’s car got a battery issue on Lap 29. In a few minutes, Vettel was on his tail. 

With just five laps left, Charles Leclerc lost his brakes and start looking for a virtual safety car. It just tools single lap and the car was back on track. The results of the race were quite amazing as it was lead by Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, the second was Sebastian Vettel and the third was Lewis Hamilton.

  • Fifth Position – Valtteri Bottas
  • Sixth position- Esteban Ocon
  • Seventh Position- Pierre Gasly
  • Eighth Position- Nico Hulkenberg
  • Ninth position- Max Verstappen
